Salty, Sweaty and Swift

We know so often we say we will work out when on vacation, but then other plans happen and workouts are skipped. We are going to be 100% honest, it sounds good, but it even if it does happen, generally they are not our best workouts are we right? Now imagine this… you are setting sail for a tropical destination and just happen to be given the chance to run alongside crystal blue waters and palm trees. It feels like quite the treat to get up early to go for a 5K if you ask us! If you’ve been curious yourself about the Castaway Cay 5K experience, here is a breakdown of how it goes:

Registering

When you board the ship, head on over to guest relations and request to register for the Castaway Cay 5K. Although you do not have to pay for the event, it’s recommended you reserve your spot. Age is a factor – you must be at least 12 years old to participate in the event.

Morning of the Run

The morning of the run, you are instructed to meet at a particular location on the ship at 8:00 am, where you will be given a running bib and hear instructions of how the group will head out of the ship and to port, as well as a map of the running route. We suggest getting to the location earlier than 8:00am so you can be one of the first in line to get your bib. Once you have your bib, you will still need to wait for instructions, but at least the day of registration, which might be a little stressful is over. Once instructions and check in are complete, exiting the boat begins around 8:30. The guests registered in the 5K will get to be the first ones off the boat before other guests! Huge plus! You will then walk as a group to the starting point.

Castaway Cay 5K

Around 9:00am the race begins. Running is a great way to get beautiful glimpses of the island before it gets too crowded! Although you see the water at some points during the run, most of the run is on the bike paths that are not surrounded by water, but by beautiful tropical foliage and palm trees.

The Castaway Cay team has designed the running route so that there are “walls” around the running paths, which helped provide shade so it is not too overly hot to run on the Bahamaian island. Along the route there water stops and cast members cheering you on! Everyone is so excited to be at Castaway Cay that the energy around you makes this race fun and not just a workout! Not the running type, but still want to participate? No worries, you are also welcome to walk the 5K if you prefer.

Once you cross the finish line, you get a Castaway Cay 5K rubber “medal”! After the 5K, you can take a shuttle or walk back to the ship if you like to change out of your running gear so you are able to enjoy your day on Castaway Cay! You will finish the 5K early, which is amazing as the island will just be waking up ready to meet you. You know you will want to snag a great spot to spend the day by the water or find some secluded areas to take Instagram worthy images of you and your precious medal! So if that is not enough to make you pack your running shoes, then we are not sure what else will. Remember, vacation is your time. If you want to work out, workout. If you don’t want to, don’t. Do what makes you happy – it is only then that you will have the most magical vacation ever. But if you do run the Castaway 5K, don’t forget your sunscreen, it may be early, but the sun can be unforgiving. We look forward to hearing about your run!
