Throw Me Somethin’ Mistah!

It’s hard to believe that yesterday was Fat Tuesday. Personally, I would prefer to call it Chubby Tuesday, but that is a topic for another blog. Okay, moving on… Mardi Gras is upon us, and as the Cajun expression goes, “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” While Universal Studios Orlando is the top celebrator during Mardi Gras season, the Walt Disney World Resort just down I4, pulls their weight as well! At Walt Disney World, Disney Springs needs no invitation to celebrate basically anything. Port Orleans French Quarter is Mardi Gras themed year round! Let’s find out how both locations “let the good times roll.”

Disney Springs Noms

For all you foodies out there, there’s no shortage of specialty eats on the menu at some Disney Springs’ most roarin’ restaurants. The House of Blues Restaurant and Bar is cookin’ up some New Orleans classics with a little blues infusion. Try their version of Steak Po’Boy, Jambalaya, Gumbo and Bourbon Bread Pudding. Not feeling like table service? No problem! You will be able to grab all of these delicious dishes at the Smokehouse grab and go window. If you are lucky enough to be hanging at the House of Blues on Fat Tuesday, there will be live music, drink specials and prizes in the House of Blues Courtyard. With no cover or reservations required, this is a celebration you won’t want to miss.

Just a short walk over to The Landing and Carnevale is back at Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante! Not familiar with Carnevale? The annual festival  of Carnevale began in Venice, Italy. The festival celebrates the idea of celebrating life together with the gathering of friends and family to eat, drink and be merry. Join Maria & Enzo’s for live entertainment including singers, stilt walkers, jugglers, mimes, face painters, folk dancers and more all while indulging in delectable Italian cuisine.

Disney Springs Merchandise

If you have decided to hang-up your Carnevale mask skills for the year, then you should check out the World of Disney at Disney Springs. They have………. (extra long ellipsis for the drama effect) Mardi Gras inspired Minnie Ears! If Minnie Ears are not one of your obsessions, like a certain someone of Bryan and TAMMI with Ears of Experience, LLC, then you will find some other fun accessories that will top those gold, green and purple beads.

Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort

Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort is home to all things Mardi Gras year round, I mean from the Beignet Dash to their delicious beignets – Mardi Gras is themed and felt every were. However, each year on Mardi Gras, Port Orleans step it up a notch. There is an annual mini-float parade (themed golf carts decorated and performed by Disney cast members). The parade features music, select Disney characters & beads. If you are along the parade route, then you better bring yourself a little somethin’ somethin’ to hold your candy and bead loot that will be tossed to you!

Couldn’t make it to the parade? No worry as there is a lot more fun to follow! Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort hosts a Mardi Gras block party! From a dance party, face painting, characters, specially themed treats, contests and a King Cake eating contest, you won’t even know you are still at Walt Disney World, but rather on Canal or Bourbon Streets.

We hope you packed an extra suite case to carry your Mardi Gras loot home with you! And don’t forget Laissez les bons temps rouler!

One of the best times to visit the Walt Disney World Resort is during the Spring Time. Let us help you get there and all at no extra cost! We look forward to helping you let the good times roll!
