We know what you are thinking… a few months ago a late January vacation sounded fabulous especially with the deals, but now my team is in the NFL Playoff’s. How can you effectively pay attention to Happily Ever After if you do not know if your team will receive that same beautiful ending? For those of you who want to watch the big game during your Walt Disney World stay, no worries we have got you covered with the top locations to cheer on your team. Just remember, certain words and phrases cease to exist at Walt Disney World!
Whether or not it is your “thing”, there are people who enjoy watching a big sporting event while on vacation. And to be honest, as long as it is okay with your spouse, family or whoever … your dream vacation is about you. So, if you need a few hours to watch a game, you do you – you need to be happy! There is no such thing as resentment at Walt Disney World!
Here are our top three locations for where to catch the big games while at the Walt Disney World Resort.
3. Splitsville Luxury Lanes – Disney Springs: Talk about a two for one! Traveling with family or friends who are not exactly in the mood to watch sports? No problem! You can enjoy the game, while others take in a few games of bowling. Throughout the two-story building, there are televisions nearly everywhere. If you tend to get a bit distracted, this location will not be your favorite, as there is a lot going on around you other than just the football game. If you are not quite sure if this is your place, then think of the food. You can get anything from fancy schmancy pizza to sushi! We are more of pizza, wings and beer type of football fans, but to each their own. What we love about Splitsville is how much there is to do for everyone! This location is definitely a compromise for the sports and non-sports fans out there!
2. Geyser Point Bar & Grill – Copper Creek Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge: This location is much more “chill” if you are looking for a place to relax and cheer. Geyser Point has several large flat screen televisions at the center of the bar so there really is not a bad seat in the house. Plus, imagine watching the big game while taking in the scenic views from the shore of Bay Lake. Not too bad. Don’t be fooled, though Geyser Point is generally an open-air location, there are retractable windows and walls so this is definitely an “all weather” type of spot! There is a Northwestern vibe to the food and we love it! We certainly would not have a problem watching the big game with shareable cheesy brisket dip, sangria and perhaps a viewing of the Electrical Water Pageant.
1. ESPN Club – BoardWalk Resort: The ESPN Club at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort is the popular spot for viewing most sporting events on property. The restaurant and bar not only has television screens plastered nearly everywhere you turn, but has delicious food and drinks. We recommend the Loaded Tots – they are to die for. The tater tots loaded with beer cheese, caramelized onions and brisket (among other glorious accouterments) and pair wonderfully with the extensive beer list. While the ESPN Club typically does not take reservations, last year for the Super Bowl they charged for VIP Seating. Word to the wise, ESPN Club gets busy. and when we say busy, we mean BUSY, so plan to go early if you want to get in. If you are staying at an Epcot Resort, then enjoy yourself and stumble on back to your room. Just remember some will not be up as late as you and will need their beauty rest for their early dining reservations.
While we have spotlighted out top three locations, there are so many fabulous options to watch a good game while on vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort. From watching in your room, to taking in a game at the Rainforest Café or Dockside Bar at The Boathouse, the atmosphere at each location will certainly live up to its’ standards. The hardest part will be deciding which location is best for you. Do you want to just watch and chill? Or, would you rather a loud, cheering environment? No matter your choice, you will certainly find the right place for you.
Enjoy the game and … Go Birds!
