Let’s be honest anywhere you eat at Walt Disney World®, you are going to have a fabulous meal. A real Disney Dining treat is a dinner show. We have had the privilege of going to Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show at the Disney’s Polynesian Resort and the Hoop De Doo Musical Review at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. For as many times as we have visited Fort Wilderness, we never knew about this little gem – Mickey’s Backyard BBQ!
Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is a phenomenal dinner show located in an open air pavilion at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. As all reservations, we suggest you make your dining reservations 180 days out. Don’t forget, by booking a vacation with us – we will create your magic for you. Mickey’s Backyard BBQ has two seating categories, Category 1 & Category 2.
Category 1 Pricing:
Adults – $72
Children – $47
Category 2 Pricing:
Adults – $62
Children – $37
Category 1 seating for Mickey’s Backyard BBQ has the most magical of perks. When you purchase Category 1 seating, you are able to get into the venue 1 hour prior to the regular show time as VIP guests. Dinner began at 5:30pm, but we were able to get into the venue at 4:30pm. We checked in and at 4:30pm, cast members greeted us with a howdy partner and escorted us to our premium seats.
Our seats were in prime viewing area. Since the theme for the dinner show is a backyard bbq, the seating area is arranged with picnic tables that are pushed together to form long tables. Our party of four was seated directly in front of the stage and dance floor. As soon as we sat down, our host said that we could enjoy the self-serve fountain drinks. As we settled in the bar opened around 4:45pm. Remember, adults can enjoy unlimited beer, wine and red sangria all night long. Around the same time, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Chip and Dale along with their PhotoPass Photographer friends joined us for a meet and greet!
About 5:00pm it was time for some finger lickin’ goodness! The buffet of bbq opened up about a half hour before Category 2 guests were let into the venue. This was a HUGE perk to purchasing Category 1 seating as you were able to eat (without any lines), relax, grab seconds and relax again before the show began. When the Category 2 guests were let in, we were blown away by how much we had already finished before their evening even began. Just think, when Category 2 entered the venue, the show began. This meant that guests had to get their seats, grab their food and find time to stand in line to meet & greet the characters. Talk about stressful right? For us when the show began, we had already finished our seconds, met the characters and enjoyed quite a few libations before resting up for thirds and of course dessert!
Now let’s get to the good stuff! Mickey’s Backyard BBQ serves up some delicious classic bbq. For starters, the unlimited soft drinks, lemonade, tea, beer, wine and sangria are already included in the price. The red sangria was perfect for a warm (okay hot) Florida evening. Since the glasses were on the smaller side, the bartender allowed each patron to take two drinks with them at a time. Now onto the food. The buffet had bbq ribs, honey mustard chicken, bbq pulled pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, mac and cheese, corn on the cob, baked beans, corn bread, pasta salad, potato salad, caesar salad, watermelon, coleslaw, along with a few other cold salads. There was also a fixin’s bar with vegetables, dips, condiments, lettuce and cheese (for those cheeseburger fans out there). For dessert, guests could create their very own strawberry shortcake or indulge in a variety of frozen novelties including UNLIMITED Mickey Premium Bars! The food was scrumptious, hot and replenished often. My favorite part was that the food was served all night, so ultimately after dessert if you happen to get hungry again – the food was awaitin’.
Now, the food is not the main part of the evening, oh no! Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is hoted by Tumbleweed Will & Cyclone Sally who entertained us and kept the night moving along with their singing, dancing and wit. Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is a hoedown of course, so there has got to be down home country music! As country music fans, the band was fabulous and had us up on the dance floor along with our Disney friends, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale! If the music, comedy and dancing wasn’t enough we got to enjoy an incredible rope show preformed by the famous, Trick Ropin Trevor. Trevor is a world champion trick roper that performed tricks for us as well as taught a few lucky cowboys and cowgirls how to be a good ole cowboy. Boy did he put on a show, and boy oh boy were we bummed when it was over.
Mickey’s Backyard BBQ was sensational. From the food and drinks, to the show and the experience – the night was flawless. If you have little ones – GO! If you are traveling to Walt Disney World® for your 50th anniversary – GO! If you just want to have a wonderful night and enjoy some down-home cookin’ – GO!
We certainly cannot wait to go back to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. So as those cowboys say -“Don’t worry about bitin’ off more’n you can chew; your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger’n you think.”
