Mea’ai Maika’i

The views, the experiences and of course the food, are what make a vacation. You can bring home photographs, memories and souvenirs, but you cannot bring home the local flavor. Then you need to factor in the planning of a vacation – we plan the restaurants and the experiences, but we usually forget to research the “must-have” treats. If you’re traveling or thinking of traveling to Disney’s Aulani® Resort and Spa in Ko Olina, Hawai’i we’ve got you covered.

Though the Pineapple Dole Whip and authentic Hawaiian Shaved Ice are not a part of the list – they are a true “given”. You will definitely have one or both while on your tropical Disney vacation

5. Mickey Lemon Profiteroles: Imagine a lemon bar with a crispy crust topped with sugar crystals. Sounds like perfection, but it gets even better – the shape is, you guessed it – Mickey Mouse! There is a perfect blend between it being tart and sweet. Once you take a bite of this scrumptious treat your only response will be “woah”!

4. Lilikoi Cheesecake: The Lilikoi Cheesecake is a smooth and creamy mango cheesecake topped with a lilikoi (passion fruit) tangy glaze. It truly is a tropical taste of Polynesia.

3. Fried Sponge Cake: Fried Sponge Cake is best when served warm. Imagine a mini slice of sponge cake, fried to perfection and topped with confectioners sugar and fresh whipped cream. On the side you will receive a small cup of pineapple sauce. I would suggest you ask for two, as the sauce is just as scrumptious as the fried sponge cake.

2. Pineapple Macadamia Nut Cupcake:  Enjoy a pineapple cake, filled with diced pineapple and buttercream. The cupcake is frosted with thick buttercream frosting. If that is not enough to make your mouth water – atop of the frosting you’ll find mickey sprinkles, crushed macadamia nuts, white chocolate and dried pineapple. Delicious!

1. Malasadas: Malasadas are pure perfection and “must haves” when in Hawaii, but there is something about Disney that makes them taste so much more – well, magical. Malasadas come from Portugal and are fried dough (similar to a doughnut) topped with sugar or cinnamon sugar. Malasadas can come plain, with sugar, glazed and even cream filled. a favorite is the guava filled malasada. Biting into the delicious treat you will teeth will crack the crispy outside dough before sinking into the warm, chewy inside.
