Walt Disney has always had a love of Polynesia – hence the ever popular Adventureland in not one, but two Disney Parks. The idea of forgetting about reality and finding tropical paradise runs through everyone’s mind. We cannot leave out Disney’s Aulani® in Hawaii and the Pineapple Dole Whip. What else do people love? Rum! Blend Polynesia and rum (among other things) and you get perfection called Trader Sam’s!
Whether you’re visiting Disneyland® or Walt Disney World®, “hakuna matata”, because there is a Trader Sam’s located at both destinations. Each location, though similar in atmosphere, is unique.
Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Room has called the Disneyland® Hotel home since 2011. While Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto opened at Disney’s Polynesian Resort just a few years ago in 2015. Both locations have a killer atmosphere and are heavily inspired by Adventureland attractions such as the Jungle Cruise and Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Walt Disney World® Resort even incorporates the once popular, now extinct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It’s an experience unlike any other – an experience everyone has got to checkout. Don’t worry, everyone can see what Trader Sam’s has to offer, but before 8pm, because after 8pm the 21 and over natives get restless.
Hungry? Both locations serve appetizers infused by Polynesian and Hawaiian culture. Let’s be honest, you’re not just visiting Trader Sam’s to checkout the atmosphere and the food – it’s the drinks you’re after! The drinks are an experience of their own. Most drinks are served in a unique glass (available for purchase), and have a theme attached to them. Take the Uh Oa! Once the drink is made and on it’s way out and the famous Uh Oa chant begins some how awakening the Tiki Godess who angrily starts a howling rainstorm. Patrons are expected to chime in and join in the fun. Every specialty drink on the menu is delivered uniquely, whether it be by sound effects, chanting, or water (to name a few).
The entire restaurant lights up (not literally, it’s pretty dark inside) exotically with each drink that is ordered. Disney fans like us, will soon find themselves wanting to try each delicious drink and of course, purchase the collectible glass. Beware because as popular as both locations are – they fill up quickly and you better not keep the front door open! For the more seasoned adventurers visiting Trader Sam’s around 11pm is perfect as the crowds are much less.
Overall, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Room are MUST SEE experiences.
